Amanda is infected with type A influenza. The doctor decided to give her amantadine (Symmetrel). This is a true virostatic agent. The hemaglutinin production in the Golgi apparatus is halted and the M2 channel is ionized. She was sent home after 12 hours of giving the medicine.

Later that day, her grandmother, Rima, was found to be sick with influenza type A, similar to Amanda’s strain. She was given amantadine but she developed seizures, nausea, vomiting, dysuria, arrythmia, pupilary dilation and psychosis. She was then given rimantadine (Flumadine Forest) and this cured her.
